A woman who lost her entire forehead in a devastating accident is sharing her story as a warning to others. In 2006, 22-year-old Gráinne Kealy from Ireland was riding in her boyfriend’s jeep with her feet resting casually on the dashboard—a position she thought was harmless. When the vehicle hit black ice, the airbags deployed at nearly 200 mph, forcing her knees into her face and shattering multiple bones.
Kealy suffered a minor brain injury, severe facial trauma, a cerebrospinal fluid leak, and the loss of two teeth. Her injuries were so extreme that surgeons had to remove her forehead entirely, leaving her without one for two years before eventually fitting her with a ceramic replacement.
Recovery, she says, was emotionally and physically grueling. She struggled not only with pain but with the shock of seeing people react to her changed appearance.
Now a mother, Kealy shares her story publicly to stop others from making the same mistake. She urges passengers never to place their feet on a dashboard, no matter how comfortable it seems. The overwhelming response to her warning gives her hope that her experience might save someone else’s life.
