President Donald Trump sparked fresh controversy after claiming that Israeli-American mega-donor Miriam Adelson offered him $250 million to support a run for an unconstitutional third term in 2028—an idea he has repeatedly teased in public remarks.
Speaking at a White House Hanukkah reception on Tuesday night, Trump praised Adelson before inviting her onto the stage in the East Room. Addressing the crowd, he said Adelson had been the single largest contributor to his campaign. “Miriam gave my campaign indirectly and directly $250 million, she was the number one,” Trump said. “When somebody can give you $250 million, I think that we should give her the opportunity to say hello.”
Adelson, the widow of billionaire casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, who died in 2021, then addressed the audience herself. She revealed that she had recently met with Harvard Law School professor Alan Dershowitz, who previously served as an attorney for Jeffrey Epstein.
According to Adelson, the conversation touched on extending Trump’s time in office beyond constitutional limits. “I spoke with Alan about four more years,” she said, adding, “I say, Alan, I agree with you—so we can do it!”
The remarks quickly raised alarms, reinforcing concerns about Trump’s repeated flirtations with defying constitutional term limits.
