After the devastating fire of 2019, thousands helped bring Notre-Dame Cathedral back to life.
But for one man, the story came full circle.
A carpenter who spent years working on the restoration of the historic cathedral was granted a rare and extraordinary honor: he was allowed to get married inside Notre-Dame — becoming the first person in nearly 30 years to do so.

Private weddings are almost never held in Notre-Dame. It is not a regular parish church, and special permission is required from the Archbishop of Paris. In this case, the exception was made as a gesture of gratitude for the craftsman’s contribution to rebuilding one of the world’s most iconic landmarks.
After years of dust, scaffolding, and careful restoration work, he returned not as a worker — but as a groom.
From helping repair the cathedral after tragedy to saying “I do” beneath its centuries-old arches, the moment symbolized renewal, devotion, and gratitude.
The wedding took place after Notre-Dame’s long restoration and reopening, marking not just a personal milestone, but a historic one for the cathedral itself.
From fire…
to restoration…
to love.
Do you think this was a beautiful tribute — or should Notre-Dame remain closed to private ceremonies?
