Markie Post, beloved for her warmth, talent, and timeless elegance, passed away on August 7, 2021, at the age of 70 after a courageous four-year battle with cancer. Best known for her role as public defender Christine Sullivan on the hit NBC sitcom Night Court, Post became one of television’s most recognizable faces of the 1980s, appearing in 159 episodes and winning the hearts of millions.

Born Marjorie Post in 1950, she grew up in California in an intellectually rich household, the daughter of a nuclear physicist and a poet. Before acting, she worked behind the scenes on game shows, later transitioning to television roles on The Fall Guy, Cheers, and Hart to Hart. She also earned praise later in her career for roles on Chicago P.D. and There’s Something About Mary.

Despite illness, Post continued working and referred to her cancer treatment as a “side job,” refusing to let it define her. Married for 39 years to writer Michael A. Ross, she was remembered by family and colleagues as kind, generous, and deeply loving.
Markie Post’s legacy lives on through her work, her resilience, and the grace she showed both on and off screen.
