The terrible terror attack at Bondi Beach in Sydney on Sunday has shocked people all over the world.
As investigations continue into the deadly Bondi Beach attack, public attention has increasingly focused on an extraordinary act of bravery by civilian hero Ahmed al Ahmed.
At least 15 people were killed and many others injured when two gunmen opened fire on families gathered at Sydney’s Bondi Beach on Sunday, December 14, during Hanukkah celebrations attended by more than 1,000 people. Authorities have classified the incident as an act of terrorism. Victims included a 10-year-old girl, a Holocaust survivor, a British rabbi, a retired New South Wales police officer, and a French national.
The suspected attackers, identified as father and son Sajid and Naveed Akram, were previously interviewed by security services in 2019. Officials say they acted alone and were driven by extremist ideology.
Amid the chaos, Ahmed al Ahmed, a 43-year-old Syrian-Australian father of two, tackled one of the gunmen and disarmed him, an act captured on video that likely saved many lives. Ahmed was injured during the struggle and remains in hospital recovering.
His actions have drawn international praise, including from former U.S. President Donald Trump, and a fundraising campaign in his honor has surpassed $1.3 million.
