A Texas man has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison following a violent encounter at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint, though investigators say the case may extend beyond a single act. Kevin Dominguez, 26, drove into a checkpoint on U.S. Highway 57 in August 2023, where a Border Patrol canine alerted to movement in his trunk. Instead of complying, Dominguez reversed his vehicle, striking an agent, and fled before being arrested shortly after. A person found concealed in the trunk was also taken into custody.
While Dominguez’s sentence for assaulting a federal officer is now final, authorities are examining whether his actions were connected to a broader smuggling network.
