President Donald Trump expressed pride in the U.S. economy during a Super Bowl LX interview with NBC’s Tom Llamas, despite surveys showing widespread concern over the cost of living. Trump claimed the nation is “in the Trump economy” and predicted continued growth, citing $18 trillion in investments and new factories and businesses being established.
However, recent data tell a more mixed story. A nationwide survey by Talker Research for Current.com found that 90% of Americans feel the country is in a cost of living crisis, with 52% struggling to pay bills on time and many unable to afford basic necessities. Another NPR/Marist/PBS News poll showed 59% of adults disapprove of Trump’s economic management.
Trump also claimed GDP growth of 5.6%, exceeding the Department of Labor’s reported 4.4% for Q3 2025, though he referenced projections from the Atlanta Federal Reserve. Factory openings he promised are expected to occur over the next year to year and a half.
