Health officials in Chicago are investigating possible measles exposure at O’Hare International Airport after two cases were confirmed in the same county. Authorities say an infected traveler spent extended time in Terminal 1 on April 22 and 23 between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m., potentially exposing hundreds of passengers. The individual, who had received one dose of the MMR vaccine, developed symptoms on April 25 and is now isolating at home.
Days later, a second case emerged locally, with the patient seeking care on April 28 and being placed in isolation. The cases have prompted increased monitoring and contact tracing by the Chicago Department of Public Health.
Officials urge anyone present in Terminal 1 during the specified times to watch for symptoms such as fever, cough, red eyes and rash. Two MMR doses provide about 97% protection and remain the strongest defense.
