In the wake of Nala’s tragic passing, Nicola took legal action against those she believes are responsible. On July 30, she filed a lawsuit in the Supreme Court of the State of New York, County of Westchester, against Jony Ceballos, Deborah “Deb” Gittleman, and HoundSpa LLC.

According to court documents, Nala’s death resulted from alleged intentional and malicious abuse by groomer Jony. Nicola claims that HoundSpa and its owner, Deborah, acted recklessly by continuing to employ Jony despite a history of complaints about his treatment of animals.

The lawsuit states that Nala was in a happy, healthy state when she entered the mobile grooming van parked outside Nicola’s home on June 15. However, she emerged in severe distress, struggling to breathe and showing signs of physical trauma.

Nicola rushed Nala to a nearby vet, where they observed her tongue was blue. She also had fluid in her lungs and suffered neurological damage. Despite being put on oxygen and receiving immediate care, Nala tragically passed away.
