Boy decks out an old lady’s house for Halloween to make her feel like the holiday is worth celebrating
Kevin, an 11-year-old boy, notices that Mrs. Kimbly, an elderly neighbor, has not decorated her house for Halloween, unlike the rest of the neighborhood. Concerned, he offers to help, but she angrily rejects his offer. Undeterred, Kevin decides to decorate her house anyway, hoping to bring some Halloween cheer to her lonely life. However, when Mrs. Kimbly discovers what he’s done, she angrily destroys Kevin’s carved pumpkin, causing him to feel heartbroken.
Later that night, instead of trick-or-treating, Kevin returns to Mrs. Kimbly’s home to make sure no one vandalizes it. As he sits on her porch, sharing his candy with trick-or-treaters, Mrs. Kimbly eventually joins him. She explains that her bitterness toward Halloween stems from her loneliness, having no children or grandchildren to celebrate with. Moved by her vulnerability, Kevin assures her she doesn’t have to be alone. In a heartfelt moment, Mrs. Kimbly apologizes for her earlier outburst, and Kevin invites her to carve another pumpkin together, bringing warmth and healing to their relationship.
