Florida man tied his house down to the ground awaiting Hurricane Milton

As Hurricane Milton, a Category 5 storm, tore through Florida, Pedro Casares, a resident of Orlando, took extraordinary precautions to protect his home. With wind gusts reaching 100 mph, he strapped down his one-story house using six large yellow straps anchored to both the roof and the ground. His inventive approach gained attention, with some calling it “the most Florida thing ever,” while others humorously predicted he’d be watching TV in his “new living room swimming pool” as other homes were swept away.
The storm caused significant destruction, with at least two fatalities reported, and 19 tornadoes confirmed across the state. Governor Ron DeSantis urged residents to remain indoors, as video footage of the hurricane went viral. Major theme parks like SeaWorld and Disney World shut down due to the storm, with Disney facing an estimated $150 million to $200 million in losses.
Despite the damage, Tampa Mayor Jane Castor noted that the lack of storm surge helped mitigate some of the disaster, though flooding remains a major concern with high tide approaching.
