She became a child star after bio parents gave her up

Melissa Gilbert, beloved as Laura Ingalls Wilder from Little House on the Prairie, has a surprising past. Born in Los Angeles on May 8, 1964, she was placed for adoption just 24 hours later. Her biological parents, Kathy Wood and David Darlington, prioritized their careers over raising a child. Adopted by actor Paul Gilbert and Barbara Crane, Melissa grew up surrounded by creativity, setting the stage for her acting career.
Her adoptive parents later divorced, and when Paul passed away in 1976, the cause was initially believed to be a stroke. Years later, Melissa discovered he had taken his own life, a secret deeply buried. Learning this at 45, she reflected on how much of her life was an illusion.
Melissa also uncovered that her biological parents had both been married to others, with six children combined. Unprepared for a seventh, they chose adoption. Although she now lives a simpler life in the Catskills with her husband, Tim Busfield, tending crops and raising chickens, the mysteries of her past, marked by questions and revelations, still linger.
