Becoming a parent is an indescribable feeling. Whether expectant mothers or fathers, most of us are simply overjoyed to know we are having a child. We picture how they’ll look, imagine teaching them, and long for the moment we hold them for the first time.
Sadly, not all pregnancies end in happiness. Carlos Morales from Phoenix, Arizona, knows this tragic truth all too well.
Carlos and Erica Morales met in 2006 at a Scottsdale nightclub. Despite a language barrier—Carlos spoke no English, Erica no Spanish—they felt an undeniable attraction. They met again through mutual friends, fell in love, and learned each other’s languages. Married in Las Vegas in 2007, they dreamed of a family.
After a miscarriage, fertility treatments led to a shocking revelation: Erica was carrying quadruplets. Carlos cared for Erica as pregnancy took its toll. On January 12, 2015, doctors performed an emergency C-section. Their three daughters and son were born, but tragedy struck—Erica suffered fatal hypovolemic shock.
Carlos, devastated, named one daughter Erica in her honor. With help from Erica’s mother, he devoted himself to raising his children, proving love endures even through heartbreak.
