Robert, 32, had a perfect balance between work and family life with his wife Candice and their five-year-old son, Sam. Married for eight years, he worked full-time while Candice stayed home to care for Sam.
Lately, Robert noticed Sam avoiding his mother. Concerned, he asked, “Why won’t you spend time with Mom?”
Sam hesitated. “She has a secret. She cries when you’re at work. I saw her hide a picture in a green box under her bed.”
Curious, Robert searched and found a picture of a happy family. His heart pounded—the man in the photo resembled Candice.
“Who is he?” Robert confronted her.
Tears filled her eyes. “He’s my twin brother. My mother had an affair. When we were born, she and her lover each took a child.”
Robert was stunned.
“I never met my real father,” Candice whispered. “I want to know my brother, but it would break my parents.”
Robert hugged her. “Whatever you choose, I’ll support you.”
Candice remained torn—should she embrace her past or protect the life she knew?
