Greg and Natalie had been divorced for a while, but they still shared a three-year-old son, Oliver. Greg thought they were co-parenting well until one day, Natalie called him in tears, delivering devastating news.
“Greg, Oliver’s gone!” she screamed into the phone.
Greg was in shock. He quickly arranged a flight to her city, devastated by the loss. But when he arrived, he discovered the unimaginable truth. Mike, Natalie’s new husband, called to say, “Natalie made it up. Oliver’s alive.”
It turned out that Natalie had fabricated the story, hoping Greg would leave her life for good. She had been worried that he might take Oliver away, especially with another baby on the way.
Greg, heartbroken and angry, confronted Natalie, who tearfully explained her fears. Though hurt by the lie, Greg assured her he never intended to take Oliver from her. He emphasized the need for both parents to be involved and insisted on counseling to work through their issues.
Despite the betrayal, Greg’s primary focus was on his son, and he began seeking jobs closer to him.
